Staff Technical Community Architect, FOCUS
The Staff Technical Community Architect for FOCUS serves as the primary community expert and advocate for the FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification. This role bridges technical implementation expertise with community engagement, supporting data generator adoption, managing the FOCUS ambassador program, and driving global awareness. Reports to Staff Director of Community with dotted line to Director of Data Engineering.
Full time, fully remote, occasional domestic and international travel for events.
Responsibilities
Serve as community expert on FOCUS specification with deep understanding of architecture, data schemas, and implementation requirements. Advise end-users on implementations, support global community directors, and attend FOCUS member meetings
Manage data generator community including cloud service providers, billing platforms, and vendors. Answer technical implementation questions, encourage new data generators, align product launches, and facilitate feedback to specification development
Manage FOCUS Ambassador program, recruit and enable community advocates, and bring together adopters, billing generators, and practitioners in FinOps community forums
Collect and document FOCUS best practices, implementation patterns, and case studies. Create technical content, guides, and compelling success stories that demonstrate value
Speak and evangelize FOCUS at global and regional events. Recruit speakers for FinOps X and other FOCUS-related sessions
Align membership conversations between FinOps Foundation and FOCUS Project, coordinate with product marketing on launches, and collaborate with Director of Data Engineering on technical strategy

Qualifications
Required
BS/BA technical degree preferred and 8+ years in technical communities, open source projects, or developer relations
In-depth knowledge of open source community dynamics and ability to navigate complex technical environments with technical and business stakeholders
Deep understanding of cloud billing data, cost management, and financial operations preferred. Technical understanding of data schemas and specifications
Excellent communication skills with proven ability to present at conferences and create compelling technical content
Strong relationship-building skills and experience leading cross-functional collaboration. Highly adaptable in remote, fast-paced settings managing multiple priorities
Salary $178,000 - 200,000 USD
