Senior Public Relations Manager
The Senior Public Relations Manager is responsible for helping develop and execute the PR strategy for some of the world's most exciting open source projects. This role manages complex, fast-moving, and cross-functional communications challenges and opportunities, delivering on-message, high-quality media and analyst coverage, managing thought leadership platforms for key spokespeople, overseeing PR for major internal and third-party events, and serving as a trusted resource for the Linux Foundation's own communications needs.
This position requires the ability to travel.
Responsibilities
Develop and strengthen relationships with key journalists, bloggers, podcasters, and influencers in technology trade and business press
Oversee and support creation of influencer, analyst, and media target lists meaningful to various open source projects and the Linux Foundation
Support development and execution of PR and media strategy for project and LF events
Craft compelling PR campaigns aligned with messaging meaningful to differentiated audiences
Build and execute thought leadership platforms, mapping SMEs to key audiences and themes; support and/or lead media prep for key spokespeople
Write press releases and other growth-focused content; distill and translate technical news into compelling messages aligned with project strategy and goals
Develop and lead execution of PR strategy for internal and third-party events
Manage third-party agency partners when required
Support regional events with understanding and sensitivity to global communication requirements and best practices
Qualifications
7–10 years of experience in B2B tech PR, preferably agency or a combination of agency and in-house
Proven ability to understand complex technology and create related messaging for executive-level audiences
Exceptional media relations skills with demonstrated success securing high-level media coverage
Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools for improved efficiency and outcomes
Deep relationships with traditional and new media
Meticulous attention to detail and project management skills
Strong writing skills and the ability to context-switch between the voice of different open source projects
Proven ability to establish and lead executive thought leadership platforms
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Proven ability to oversee PR program management and support where needed
Cross-functional project management skills required
Strong understanding of open source and technology trends; willingness to learn and stay current on open source and related project technology developments
Strong manager with experience managing 1–3 direct reports
Experience working in Google Workspace (G Suite) with exceptional Google Slides skills
Familiarity with the open source ecosystem; experience creating PR plans aimed at developer awareness preferred
Experience supporting large press events
Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and willingness to roll up sleeves to get the job done
